The best tennis player used to present another kind of challenge to sports journalists. Tennis has historically been a white-dominated and patriarchal sport. The presence of a player like Serena in this, her commitment to black society forced sports journalists to talk about the social impact of tennis rather than just reporting on the court.

The American people associate sport with their values ​​of life. According to her, the game gives importance to talent rather than favoritism. But despite the high media perception, racist thinking prevailed in tennis and other sports.

So, when fourteen-year-old Serena Williams arrived in 1995, it was reported in the media that a black girl from California's working class had come to play professional tennis. Sociologist Delia Douglas analyzes that tennis is being played by those who can play it in resorts, country clubs and tennis academies. There has also been a perception that women are weaker than men.

Under this thinking, sports journalists wrote that Serena's style spoiled the image of women's tennis.

In 2001, at the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament in California, when spectators made racist comments on the Williams sisters, they boycotted the tournament for fourteen years.

Serena told reporters to analyze the entire game instead of just analyzing her serve. 

Based on her experience, Serena admitted that in black society, women are given less attention.
